Varroa destructor is the most significant threat to managed honeybee colonies. HiveBook™ gives you dedicated tools for tracking varroa mite counts, logging treatments, managing withdrawal periods, and analyzing treatment effectiveness — all accessible without an internet connection.
Treatment Log
Go to More → Treatment Log to see all treatment records across your apiary, or open a specific hive to view its treatment history. To log a new treatment, tap the + button and fill in:
- Hive — which colony was treated
- Treatment type — the product or method used
- Date applied — when treatment started
- Dose and duration — the amount applied and how long the treatment runs
- Withdrawal period end date — when it is safe to harvest honey after treatment
- Notes — observations about application conditions or results
HiveBook automatically tracks withdrawal period end dates and can generate a task to remind you when the withdrawal period expires so you do not harvest too early.
Treatment Library
The Treatment Library (More → Treatment Library) is a built-in reference for common beekeeping treatments. It includes information on the following treatment types used in the Treatment Log:
The library helps you quickly look up dosage guidelines and application notes when logging a treatment, reducing the need to reference external documentation in the field.
Varroa Tracking
Varroa Tracking (More → Varroa Tracking) is a dedicated section for logging mite count monitoring events. You can record a count for any hive and specify which counting method you used:
For each varroa monitoring event you record:
- Hive — which colony was monitored
- Date — when the count was taken
- Method — the counting technique used
- Mite count — the number of mites found in the sample
- Sample size — how many bees were in the sample (for calculating infestation rate)
- Notes — any observations about the colony's condition at the time of the count
HiveBook tracks mite counts over time for each hive so you can see whether counts are rising or falling in response to treatment.
Regular varroa monitoring — every 4 to 6 weeks during the active season — is the most reliable way to catch mite infestations before they reach harmful levels. Alcohol wash is the gold standard for accuracy.
Varroa Analytics Pro
With a Pro or Premium subscription, Varroa Analytics (More → Analytics & Forecasts → Varroa Analytics) shows mite count trends across your apiary:
- Mite infestation rate trends per hive over time
- Treatment effectiveness — how much counts dropped after each treatment
- Hives currently above treatment thresholds
- Seasonal patterns in varroa pressure across your operation
Treatment Analytics Pro
Treatment Analytics (More → Analytics & Forecasts → Treatment Analytics) gives you a broader view of your treatment program:
- Which treatment types you have used most frequently
- Treatment costs across your operation
- Treatment effectiveness compared across different products
- Timing patterns to help you plan future treatment cycles
